Level 4: Walk It Out — Obedience and Character
Lesson 10: Becoming More Like Christ Daily
Spiritual maturity is the lifelong process of becoming more like Jesus in heart, attitude, conduct, love, humility, obedience, and daily surrender.
Focus
Bringing obedience and character together into a daily lifestyle of Christlikeness.
In Lesson 9, we learned about responding well under pressure. Pressure often reveals what is being formed in our hearts, and God can use difficult moments to shape our responses with grace, wisdom, patience, and faith.
In this final lesson of Level 4, we focus on becoming more like Christ daily. This brings together everything we have studied in this level: obedience, holiness, humility, love, forgiveness, patience, integrity, self-control, and godly responses under pressure.
The goal of Christian growth is not merely to know more information. The goal is to become more like Jesus Christ in the way we think, speak, serve, love, forgive, obey, and live.

Core Teaching
Becoming more like Christ is the lifelong work of God in every believer. Romans 8:29 teaches that God’s purpose is for His people to be conformed to the image of His Son. This means God is not only interested in what we do for Him; He is shaping who we are becoming in Him.
Christlikeness is the goal of spiritual maturity. God desires to shape our hearts so that our thoughts, attitudes, desires, words, choices, relationships, and responses reflect Jesus more clearly.
This process does not happen all at once. In 2 Corinthians 3:18, it says that we are being transformed into the same image “from glory to glory.” Transformation is progressive. God works in us day by day, season by season, lesson by lesson, and surrender by surrender.
Sometimes growth feels visible and encouraging. Other times it feels slow, hidden, or uncomfortable. But God is faithful to continue His work in those who belong to Him. Every act of obedience, every moment of repentance, every surrendered attitude, and every step of faith becomes part of the process.
Galatians 2:20 gives a powerful picture of the Christian life: “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” Becoming like Christ begins with surrendering the old life and learning to live by faith in the Son of God.
This means we no longer lives with self at the center. Christ becomes Lord over our desires, decisions, priorities, identity, relationships, and purpose. We are not simply trying to improve ourselves; we are learning to live from our oneness with Christ.
Ephesians 5:1 says, “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.” This is a family calling. As children of God, we are called to reflect the character of our Father. We learn His ways, follow His heart, and walk in a manner that honors Him.
Ephesians 5:2 then says, “And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us.” Love is one of the clearest expressions of Christlikeness. Jesus loved sacrificially, humbly, truthfully, patiently, and faithfully. As we grow, our love should begin to look more like His.
Becoming more like Christ also means growing in obedience. Jesus lived in perfect obedience to the Father. He did not live for selfish ambition, worldly approval, or personal comfort. His life was surrendered to the will of God.
Christlikeness includes holiness. During Jesus earthly ministry, He demonstrated for us how to walk pure, righteous, compassionate, truthful, humble, and set apart for the Father’s purpose. As believers, we are called to turn from sin and live in a way that reflects the holiness of the One who saved us.
Christlikeness includes humility. Jesus served others, washed feet, welcomed the broken, and humbled Himself in obedience to the Father. A growing believer does not seek pride, applause, or control, but learns to serve with grace and surrender.
Christlikeness includes forgiveness. Jesus forgave those who sinned against Him and taught His followers to forgive. We should refuse to allow bitterness to rule in our hearts.
Christlikeness includes endurance. Jesus remained faithful through suffering, rejection, misunderstanding, and the Cross. As we follow Him, we learn to continue in faith even when the path is difficult.
Christlikeness includes self-control and godly responses under pressure. Jesus did not allow pressure, accusation, temptation, or suffering to move Him away from the Father’s will. Through the Holy Spirit, believers can grow in that same kind of steadiness.
Becoming more like Christ daily is not about perfection in our own strength. It is about daily surrender to God’s grace, daily dependence on the Holy Spirit, and daily willingness to follow Jesus with a teachable heart.
Personal Application
Begin by asking God where He is making you more like Christ. Sometimes we only notice how far we still have to go, but it is important to recognize that God is working in you.
Think about your growth in this level. Where has God challenged you? Has He been calling you to deeper obedience, greater holiness, more humility, stronger love, forgiveness, patience, integrity, self-control, or better responses under pressure?
Becoming like Christ requires honesty. We must allow God to show us where our character does not yet reflect Jesus. But we must also remember that conviction is not condemnation. God corrects us because He loves us, and He is forming Christ in us.
Do not despise small steps of growth. Every surrendered choice matters. Every obedient step matters. Every time you pause before reacting, forgive instead of holding bitterness, speak truth with love, serve humbly, or choose holiness, Christlike character is being formed.
Remember This Truth
Spiritual maturity is not becoming more religious on the outside; it is becoming more like Christ from the inside out.
A Simple Pattern for Becoming More Like Christ Daily
Use this pattern as a daily reminder of how God forms Christlike character in your life.
The C.H.R.I.S.T. Pattern

- Renew your mind: Let Scripture shape your thoughts, desires, attitudes, and decisions.
- Imitate Jesus: Ask how Christ would lead you to love, serve, forgive, speak, and respond.
- Surrender your will: Choose obedience even when your feelings, habits, or preferences resist.
